Davido - A Better Time Review

At last the much anticipated Album “A Better Time” from Davido has finally been released and as expected it already creating a buzz in the music industry.

Talking about The Album Review Davido – A Better Time Review

Davido - A Better Time

The album saw Davido feature the biggest artist in it, including Chris Brown, Nicki minaj, Lil baby, Mayorkun, Young Thug, Tiwa Savage, Mugeez and many more.

As of 2019 Davido released his sophomore album, ‘A Good Time.’ It was seen as a soundtrack to something merry and parts of it achieved that. While it was definitely an improvement on the not so good ‘Son of Mercy EP,’ it was still not a baf body of work. The EP had some great moments, some very average moments and some very poor moments. But interestingly, none of the songs was totally bad. The problem was that Davido, as great as he is, just couldn’t put them together into something magical.

Fast forward to the present On November 13, 2020, Davido released” A Better Time” and the album contains 17 tracks and features 12 other artists. The art is a celebration of his son,Ifeanyi. Whom he also used as the cover art of the album. After giving birth to his son, Davido needed to release an album with a more centered create process and a need to showcase growth, Davido wanted the album to reflect improvement from the previous one, hence the name a better time.

The noticeable thing is that Davido’s maturity shows in the best selection and the risks he takes on certain songs. It’s also interesting that Davido is reputed to be a great A&R, who is rooted in his multifaceted love for music. But at the fourth attempt, Davido is still unable to produce an album of genuine compelling quality. Marketing was another hit, as even just as poor as the album was, it is already creating a buzz in the Nigerian music industry, and getting the huge streams other artists in Nigeria can’t think of getting.

• FEM AND JOWO

Many fans are already familiar with FEM as it the song that Davido released first as a thriller before the complete album. Fem saw Davido talks about his achievements while telling his haters to FEM, which means keep quite. “Jowo” on the other hand talks about his love for a girl who he has been trying to get for a long time. David kept telling her he is the right one for her and no other. Very thrilling song.

• SOMETHING FISHY AND HOLY GROUND FT NICKI MINAJ

Something fishy talks about his suspecting something is going on with his relationship with his girl. David mentions that he keeps calling his girl but she is not picking, hence something fishy going on. While Holy Ground with Nicki Minaj went a little bit sore, it wasn’t bad at all. Just didn’t feel Nicki’s vibe in that song at all, and fans can attest to that. Another poor song off this album for me.

• HEAVEN AND VERY SPECIAL

This can easily be the two best songs in this album. Heaven talks about how he feels with his girl, describing her, saying she came from heaven. The lyrics are very thrilling also. While “Very Special” is the best song for me in this album. Very special has a special catchy line that fans can easily sing along to. In the song Davido shows his appreciation for his girl saying she is very special. Nice jam from David!

• THE BEST FT MAYORKUN AND SHOPPING SPREE FT YOUNG THUG AND CHRIS BROWN

“The Best” sees Davido feature mayorkun on this track. This is one of fans favorite song from the album. Fans love the thrilling lyrics from mayorkun. It another catchy song, but to me it another average song on the album. While “Shopping spree” saw Davido feature two big artists in person of Young Thug and Chris Brown. The might be one of the fan favorites, but it surely a thrilling track from the album. This track took the album to another level, which is quite good. Young Thug and Chris Brown also brought their A game to this track. Sensational hit!!!

• SUNLIGHT AND TANANA FT TIWA SAVAGE

“Sunlight” is just another average track from this album. The track saw Davido repeatedly talk about his love for his girl calling her sunlight. It just another song with nothing thrilling happening. Davido need to up his game. While “Tanana” could be seen as a potential hit, it just didn’t click for me. It has a nice sing along the line, especially since he featured Tiwa Savage. Expectations were high if you ask me. The song did better compared to others with even bigger star features,e but the overall truth is I just didn’t vibe to this song. Nice song tho!

• MEBE FT MUGEEZ AND LALA FT CKAY

Surprisingly, both songs pass the same message just with different beats and people. “Mebe” sees Davido feature Mugeez. The song talks about the both artist liking the body figure of a girl most especially the backside, hence referring to it as “Mebe”. While ” Lala” also talks about a girls beautiful body. But on this one Davido features Ckay who had a nice time in the song. They reportedly try to convince the girl that she has a really beautiful body. Nice jam from Davido but certainly still an average song from the album. Let move on to the next!

• SO CRAZY FT LIL BABY AND BIRTHDAY CAKE FT HIT BOY AND NAS

Okay! This two pair of songs is probably the most anticipated songs from the album because of the people featured in them. “So crazy” saw Davido feature Lil baby. The song has caused a huge buzz in the music industry as fans have noted how poor Lil baby lyric were on the song. While “Birthday Cake” on the other hand, saw Davido feature Hit Boy and Nas in what seem like doing too much. Honestly, why would Davido feature Nas? The song was so average as every other song on that album. Next please!

• I GOT A FRIEND FT MAYORKUN AND SHO MADJOZI AND FADE FT BELLA SHMURDA

Alright, I must admit, this is possibly the two best songs from this album. In general Mayorkun was the only featured artist who brought this album alive. “I Got A Friend” saw Davido feature mayorkun and for me, the song was really dope. Mayorkun brought his A game and really killed it! While “Fade” featuring Bella Shmurda was another track that was really thrilling. The vibes and connection could be heard in the song. Nice jam!

• ON MY WAY FT SAUTI SOL

This could easily have been another hit track, but again lacked the cohesion to. It seems both artists struggled with trying to blend with each other. Not a bad tune at all but for me it just another average song on the album. Nice melody and thrilling lyrics!!!

Thought On The Album “A Better Time”

I really feel this is one of the worst album Davido have produced in his career. Honestly “A Good Time” Album was much better than this. For me Davido tried to overdo and this didn’t cone out well for him at all. The artist, he featured on the album were simply too much and some just didn’t fit to his style of music. In summary, the album was to long. Davido could have made it less and connect more. There is just no connection from one song to another all seen to be world apart. At the same time there were some really great track I enjoyed. In summary, it was just an average album.
